With its distinctive shape, M104 is appropriately named as the Sombrero. An Sa class galaxy, the Sombrero features an enormous dust free nucleus surrounded by a thin band or disk of dust, gas and stars on the central plane. The arms are difficult to see, they are tightly wound around the nucleus and the galaxy is seen nearly edge-on.
